Agoraphobia: fear of open spaces
Agoraphobia is a type of anxiety disorder in which you fear and often avoid places or situations that might cause you to panic and make you feel trapped, helpless or embarrassed.
Agoraphobia is more common in women then men. It usually first appears in young adulthood. However it can occur at any age.
Having panic disorder or other phobias, or experiencing stressful life events, may play a major role in the development of agoraphobia.
Symptoms of Agoraphobia:
ü fear of leaving your house for long periods of time
ü dependence on others
ü fear of being alone
ü fear of being at places where it would be difficult to escape
ü fear of losing control of yourself in a public place
ü detachment or estrangement from others
ü feeling helpless
ü feeling that your body is not real
ü feeling that the environment is not real
ü agitation or anger
