In my story I hope to give at least one person the inspiration
to follow their heart and bring them one step closer to achieving their hopes,
dreams, and goals.
I had little confidence or determination a year ago and I was at
the point in my life where I thought things couldn't get any worse. Being that
I lost someone very close to me; I separated from my husband and was left as a
single mother with three children. I was a stay-at-home mother, with no formal
education to help support my children or myself and no clue as to which way to
turn. In my eyes, I reached what I thought was one of the most challenging and
low points of my life.
Seven months ago, my life changed dramatically. Being on social
assistance, I was given an opportunity to attend the Career Planning for Women
Workshop. I truly believe the workshop played a big part in putting me back on
the right path and brought me to where I am today. The workshop gave me a
chance to gain the confidence I needed including a more positive outlook and
reminded me that anything is possible.
Career Planning for Women brought me to knowing who I was and
what I wanted to do. I realized I wanted to be back in school to learn and
experience new things. I set many goals for myself and have faith in all the
wonderful and great opportunities I know are ahead of me.
Thankfully, I was given the opportunity through Employment
Insurance and the Reach Back Program to be funded to return to school. I am now
enrolled in the Addictions Worker Program, which I am truly enjoying. I have
grades that I am proud of.
I firmly believe we have the help, support, and resources
available to us but it is up to each individual to make the most of them.
If I can give anyone advice it would be to believe that anything
is possible. Remember to take each day, one day at a time, and to try and stay
positive. Treat each opportunity as a blessing. Each opportunity will bring you
one step closer to shaping who you are as a person and the person you are meant
to be.
