Stammering - Stuttering
It is a condition in which there is disturbance in the normal
fluency and time patterning of speech inappropriate for the child’s age.
The following
features are often suggestive of the presence of stuttering or stammering:
ü There may be frequent repetition or prolongation of sounds or
syllables; or frequent hesitations or pauses that disrupt the rhythmic flow of
speech.
ü One may engage in word substitutions to avoid saying problematic
words
ü One may produce words with an excess of physical tension.
ü Monosyllabic whole-word repetitions such as “I-I-I-I see him” may
be present.
